Ed FortunadoEdward J. Fortunato is the Chief Economist of Constellation Energy, where he analyzes global and domestic economic trends and their implications for the company. Over more than two decades with Exelon and Constellation, Ed has held numerous leadership roles, including managing proprietary trading, leading short-term analytics, and directing fundamental market analysis. Prior to joining Constellation, he served as Vice President of Natural Gas Trading at Merrill Lynch Global Commodities and as a Senior Energy Trader at Edison Mission Energy. He began his career trading oil, natural gas, and other commodities.

Ed holds an MBA with high honors in finance from Boston University and a BBA from Baruch College. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ed is deeply committed to faith-based leadership and service within the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Since relocating to Maryland in 2012, he has been an active member of the Catholic community, serving on the Archdiocese of Baltimore’s Board of Financial Administration.

He is the Chair of the Board for the Partners in Excellence Scholarship Program, a vital Archdiocesan ministry that provides need-based scholarships to help low-income families access Catholic education and break the cycle of poverty in Baltimore City. Through this work, Ed has played an important role in expanding educational opportunity and strengthening Catholic schools and communities across the region.

His broader commitment to service includes involvement with local ministries supporting individuals in need and advancing educational and community initiatives, reflecting his dedication to living out the values of faith, stewardship, and service.

Originally from St. Finbar Parish in Brooklyn, New York, Ed now resides in Ellicott City, Maryland with his wife, Sarah, their son Hank, and their dog, Dozer.

Archbishop William E. Lori will be joining us to present this prestigious award to Mr. Fortunato. We encourage you to register early as tickets will go fast!

Join the Catholic Business Network of Baltimore for CBNB’s annual Catholic Leadership Breakfast and the presentation of CBNB’s 2025 Catholic Business Leadership Award!

John SmythJohn C. Smyth is a native of Pensacola, Florida, the fourth of eight children of Dr. J. Walter and Patricia Knott Smyth. He went to grade school at St. Thomas More and St. Mary’s Govans and is a 1974 graduate of Calvert Hall. Starting as a summer laborer in the plumbing trade, he fell in love with working with his hands and eventually achieved the status of Master Plumber/Gasfitter and obtained his Maryland Home Improvement license.

In 1986 at the age of 30, John and his wife, Geri, started Calvert Plumbing and Heating Co., Inc., currently doing business as Calvert Mechanical Solutions. Originally focused on plumbing only, the company has grown organically and expanded into the HVAC, systems controls and electrical markets. They currently employ 95 people and are based in Towson, MD. Notable projects include the renovations to the Basilica of the Assumption, the Mother Mary Lange Catholic School, and major projects at Notre Dame Prep, Notre Dame of Maryland University, Loyola University, Calvert Hall and Mt. DeSales Academy.

John has served as President of the Baltimore Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors and served on the Baltimore County Plumbing Board since 1996, including Chair for the past 14 years. His volunteer work has involved serving on a variety of Boards including Notre Dame Prep, Notre Dame of Maryland University and Archbishop Curley. He has served on the Archdiocesan School Board for twelve years and is a 40-year-plus Trustee and Past President of the Marion I. and Henry J. Knott Foundation. John also serves on the Board of the O’Dwyer Retreat Center for 7 years and has been its Board Chair for 5 years.  John has been married to Geri Dembeck for 46 years and they have three daughters and nine grandchildren.
